I started dieting on May 15, 2020. Welcome to day 182. UPDATE: I have lost 5 pounds!

My Dad left this life on March 4, 2019 (Last night I dreamt I saw him. I woke up feeling like I had seen an angel. I needed that visitation.). He used to always tell me two things about food:

1. Food is a drug.

Your body reacts to the sugars and nutrients in what you eat. However, if you are overeating, you might not notice the subtle effects. Now that I have been reducing my calories, I am getting more sensitive to food. Less than a minute after eating something, I feel a rush to my head – (I never did drugs) but I think this is what being high feels like.

2. Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.

There are healing and body-loving foods founds in nature for every condition. Even mental health can be helped naturally (that is not to say that medications do not work also). In other news, I was diagnosed with diabetes last week. I know that this condition can be managed by lifestyle changes. I am ready to take that step.


I realized that I not only needed to track how many calories I was consuming throughout the day; but I also needed to keep a running sum of the total calories I had eaten at any given point throughout the day, so I could begin to notice how each meal is affecting my daily total. I am trying to stay under 2,000 calories.

Saturday, 7:30 am Breakfast (300 calories allotted)

  • 1 Cherry Limeade Popsicle – 80 calories
  • Total 7:30 am Breakfast calories = 80 (220 calories under Breakfast allotment)
  • 1,920 calories under daily allotment

Saturday, 12:30 pm Snack (3) (100 + 2 Missed Snacks (1, 2) + Breakfast leftover = 520 calories allotted)

  • 1 Cherry Limeade Popsicle – 80 calories
  • Total 12:30 pm Snack (3) calories = 80 (440 calories under Snack (3) allotment)
  • Cumulative Daily Calories as of 12:30 pm = 160 (1,840 calories under daily allotment)

Saturday, 2:30 pm Lunch (300 + Snack (3) leftover = 740 calories allotted)

  • Caesar Salad With Dressing – 400 calories
  • Nacho Cheese Bugles – 250 calories
  • Small Bowl of Grapes – 75 calories
  • Total 2:30 pm Lunch calories = 725 (15 calories under Lunch allotment)
  • Cumulative Daily Calories as of 2:30 pm = 885 (1,115 calories under daily allotment)

Saturday, 7:30 pm Dinner (700 + 2 Missed Snacks (4, 5) = 900 calories allotted)

  • 1/4 Bottle of Watermelon Strawberry Body Armor Drink – 52.5 calories
  • 1 Piece of Fried Catfish – 365 calories
  • 2 Small Baked Potatoes – 250 calories
  • Small Caesar Chicken Salad – 200 calories
  • Total 6:00 pm Dinner calories = 867.5 (32.5 calories under Dinner allotment)
  • Cumulative Daily Calories as of 6:30 pm = 1,752.5 (247.5 calories under daily allotment)

Total calories consumed: 80 + 80 + 725 + 867.5 = 1,752.5 as of 8:14 pm

Charity: Water Campaign

On Saturday, September 6, 2020, I became a Spring Member, pledging a donation to charity: water every month. I also started a fundraising campaign for charity: water called, “Songs For Water.” This fundraiser is to help charity: water build the much needed water projects around the world. Read my post about this. With just a little work, we’ve already raised enough money to give water to one beautiful life for an entire year! Your support really goes a long way.
