I have been dabbling in the music arts my entire life. A few decades ago, I started writing and recording my own lyrics. Sometimes (between homelessness and joblessness) it would take an entire year to record a single, full-length song. Throughout those dark ages, I commandeered borrowed computers just to record melodies so that I would not forget them. I had no instrumental music. Just a still, small voice.

Now that I have access to instrumental music, I have been recording my songs with tracks produced by talented Indie artists. A few days ago, I even started learning to edit movies and created my first music video. A day later, I received an invitation to an open casting call for NBC’s The Voice. I have thought about trying to audition for the show at earlier moments. Now they are casting for season 21. I think I’ve waited long enough. So last night, I submitted my virtual audition video; and I have decided to chronicle the next year or DEAL (whichever comes first) on my “Road to a Record Deal.”

Lose yourself in the music, the moment, you own it… you only get one shot… opportunity comes once in a lifetime…

In my audition, I sang two songs: “Forgiven” and “Phoenix.” Both of these songs were written about 10 years ago. Music was added later, and the video for Forgiven was just made last week. I have not received a message from the Voice Casting in years. Not even after submitting a song for review in 2013. Then a few days ago, an email showed up – just after I decided to pursue music because other avenues were becoming too stressful (because music never lets me down – it is my therapy). I believe that all of these events have converged on this moment in time (for such a time as this).

Coincidence is God’s way of remaining anonymous.

So, I hope you will join me on the road to a record deal. I think it can happen in a year or less with the right connections and diligence on my part. My goal is to donate a year’s salary to charity: water by raising money with my music (this is only the beginning). Know someone or someone who knows someone who can fast track my road to a record deal? Share my ReverbNation Press Kit (“RPK” – http://www.reverbnation.com/rpk/shenicagraham).

Here’s The Tally So Far

(I will update this list weekly or as often as notable events occur)
  • November 13, 2020
    • Submitted virtual audition video to NBC’s The Voice Virtual Open Call
    • Cumulative song plays on Reverbnation.com/shenicagraham = 1,583 plays
  • November 7, 2020

The first time I began submitting my press kit to potential reps, it took exactly 8 days to get a response – and that was before I was prolific on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and anywhere else. I wonder how long it will take to get a deal now that I have more faith and experience under my belt. Help me make #1 on the ReverbNation charts. Play songs on the player below.
